DESIGN INITIATIVE

The Waikato is New Zealand’s second largest export region accounting for 19% of all NZ exports.  Design is seen as an increasingly important value-adding input into export-oriented manufacturing, and there is strong demand from government agencies to increase the use of design in industry in order to add-value to the country’s exports in order to aid economic transformation.  As the Waikato region is the largest export region in New Zealand it is thought that design could significantly enhance this region’s export earnings, which would impact significantly on this country’s economic prosperity.  CCI is leading Wintec’s new design initiative – an industry-focused design project aimed at increasing the region’s uptake of design in industry as well as initiating the introduction of new industrial/product design curriculum at Wintec based on local industry demand.
